Welcome to the LJHS Guidance Web Page.

This is my ninth year as the school counselor at Lebanon Junior High School. Previously I was a classroom teacher for twenty three years and continued in that role until I earned my masters degree from what was then Plymouth State College. I live in Plymouth with my wife, Mari. We have twin sons that are now 25 years old. Adam graduated from RIT with a degree in Information Technology and is currently living Sutton and working in Manchester. Peter graduated from Niagara University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He is married, lives in Campton with his wife Erica and is currently on active duty with the Vermont National Guard, and is currently deployed in Afghanistan.

The Guidance Department and the LJHS staff work cooperatively to give all students a program that is consistent with the goals of the Lebanon School Districts Guidance Curriculum. Our physical education teachers Scott Dwyer and Nancy Wright are responsible for teach health related topics in their physical education classes. Trish Wadlinger is the instructor of a very popular unit called Real Baby II. In this unit the students are educated about the responsibilities and expenses involved in raising a child. The culminating assignment in her class is when students have to take home a baby over night and experience some of the actual responsibilities of being the parent of a newborn.

In addition we are fortunate to have a strong Student Assistance Program here at LJHS. Dr. Steve Atkins works with students around bullying issues, Greg Partham of the Lebanon Police Department educates students around law related issues and also has a positive relationship with the students here at LJHS. Headrest educates students about substance abuse issues and The Counseling Center of Lebanon works with students who need individual counseling.

As the school counselor, I work with individual students and small groups on such topics as: self esteem, peer relationships, academic achievement, adolescent issues, nutrition, anxiety, hygiene and grooming, relationships, tolerance, manners and a wide variety of other issues as designated in the SAU #88 Guidance Curriculum Guide.

The seventh graders receive guidance in career education and decisions and the eight grade receives instruction around making and maintaining healthy relationships and character.

On a bi- weekly basis I consult with staff regarding student and team related based issues, oversee the many options available to parents and students through the  the Student Assistance Program, and help parents connect with outside agencies in the immediate area.

As the guidance counselor, I am responsible for the planning and coordinating of all standardized and national  tests that are administered in the building. I also am responsible for the transition of the sixth grade students into LJHS and the eighth grades students into LHS.

I have an open door policy  and you and/or your child are welcome to stop in or call me at any time. I am always available to students, parents and staff for consultation regarding student based issues.

It is a pleasure to work here at LJHS, and I look forward to coming to work each and every day to work with the faculty and staff, your students and the most important people in their lives, you, their parents.

Parents and students can access my services by calling 603-448-3056, or by email hburnham@sau88.net.
